Mathieu NgirumpatseMathieu Ngirumpatse was president of the Mouvement républicain national pour la démocratie et le développement (MRND). Together with his co-accused Édouard Karemera and Joseph Nzirorera, he constituted the national executive leadership of the MNRD. According to the indictment, Mathieu Ngirumpatse and his co-accused exercised effective control over the Interahamwe, the youth wing of the MRND.

Mathieu Ngirumpatse is accused of genocide, complicity in genocide, conspiracy to commit genocide, direct and public incitement to genocide, rape and exterminations (crimes against humanity), murder and causing violence to health (serious violations of Common Article 3).

Mathieu Ngirumpatse was arrested in Mali, in 1998. His trial started on 19 September 2005.
