Nzabonimana, Callixte

Callixte NzabonimanaCallixte Nzabonimana was the Minister of Youth and Sports in the interim Government of Rwanda in 1994 and also a member of the Mouvement Républicain National pour le Développement et la Démocratie (MRND). Nzabonimana was arrested on 18 February 2008 in Kigoma town, Tanzania.

Nzabonimana, 55 years of age at the time of his arrest, is charged with six counts: Conspiracy to Commit Genocide, Genocide, Complicity in Genocide, Direct and Public Incitements to commit Genocide, Crimes against Humanity and Violations of Common Article 3 of the Geneva Conventions and Additional Protocol II.

Nzabonimana allegedly conspired to work out a plan with the intent to exterminate the civilian Tutsi population and eliminate members of the opposition.

In the amended indictment of 21 November 2001, Callixte Nzabonimana was originally jointly charged with six other accused persons: Augustin Bizimana, Felicien Kabuga (still at large); Edouard Karemera, Mathieu Ngirumpatse and Joseph Nzirorera (now Karemera et al.) and Andre Rwamakuba (tried separately and acquitted).
