Delalić, Zejnil

Zejnil DelalicIn 1992, Zejnil Delalić was coordinator of the Bosnian Muslim and Bosnian Croat forces in the Konjic area as well as Commander of the First Tactical Group of the Bosnian Army. The International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia indicted Delalić for grave breaches of the Geneva Conventions and violations of the laws or customs of war. He was indicted with Zdravko Mucić, Hazim Delić, and Esad Landžo (Case IT-96-21 "Čelebići").

Delalić was charged on the basis of his alleged command over the Čelebići prison camp, which was established by the Bosnian Muslim and Bosnian Croat forces in mid 1992 and located near Konjic in central Bosnia and Herzegovina. Trial Chamber II found that he did not have command and control over the prison-camp and over the guards who worked there and, accordingly, determined that he could not be held criminally responsible for their actions. On 18 November 1998, Delalić was found not guilty and immediately released.
