Ministry of Justice

Ministerie van Justitie logoGeneral introduction
"To build a just and safe society." This is the principal aim of the 30,000 people who work for the Ministry of Justice in The Netherlands. The Ministry is responsible for legislation (civil law and procedure, criminal law and procedure, administrative law and procedure, and constitutional law). It is also responsible for crime prevention, victim support, law enforcement, youth protection, the administration of justice and legal aid, enforcement of sentences, aliens, and international cooperation. The Ministry liaises with international partners in almost every field of its work. It does so in the fight against crime and drugs, and in the reception of aliens. Problems go beyond borders, and solutions are increasingly sought in an international context.
