International Organisation for Migration

IMO logoGeneral introduction
The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) was created in 1951 to assist European displaced persons and migrants to overseas areas. Nowadays, the IOM has become a worldwide intergovernmental organisation with partners in the international community. The IOM implements migration initiatives, promotes understanding of migration issues and contributes to social and economic development of countries through migrant knowledge and expertise.

The IOM in the Netherlands executes programmes relating to transport, voluntary return and reintegration of migrants, work migration and deployment of higher educated migrants. The main activity of IOM is formed by the REAN-Programme: Return and Emigration of Aliens from the Netherlands. This programme supports particular categories of aliens who wish to return to their country of origin or who wish to go to another country.
