Netherlands Society for International Affairs

General Introduction
NGIZ logoThe Netherlands Society for International Affairs (NGIZ) was founded in 1945 to encourage the study of international relations and inform the population about various international questions in an impartial fashion. International developments have a bearing on the Netherlands. Its security and prosperity depend to a great extent on developments abroad. The Society has more than 1000 members. It has no affiliations with any political party and has no particular religious or ideological persuasion.

Regular discussion meetings and lectures are organised in different cities in the Netherlands, particularly in The Hague, but also in Utrecht, Amsterdam and Rotterdam. Guest speakers are prominent representatives of social sciences, journalism, the political world or international business. The NGIZ actively stimulates scientific research of international relations and it endeavours to give the widest publicity of its results. In keeping with this objective, the Society offers the NGIZ prize, which was instituted in 1977, in order to reward the best masters thesis on international relations.
