Peace Palace Library

Peace PalaceGeneral Introduction
The Library of the Peace Palace has one of the world's largest collections in the field of international law, public and private law, and foreign national law. The Library also has an extensive collection on international political and diplomatic history and the history of peace movements. Located on the same historic premises as the Permanent Court of Arbitration and the International Court of Justice, the Library additionally houses the Grotius Collection, the collection on the reverent 17th century Dutchman, Hugo de Groot, founder of the science of international law.

The Peace Palace Library has been collecting books and materials in the field of international law since 1913. A large part of the collection is searchable through the online catalogue. For all new acquisitions - 600 books and articles every week - view the new titles page, or keep updated through the Library's RSS alerts. If you would like to know what is inside the reading room, view the reading room map. For the best picks, view the librarian's choice.

The Peace Palace library is part of the Carnegie Foundation, the organisation which is responsible for the maintenance of the historical building of the Peace Palace in the Hague. The library has a staff of 25: one library director, 8 reference librarians; 4 cataloguing staff; 3 reading room staff; 4 webteam members; 2 acquisition staff and 5 staff working in the stacks.

In November 2006, the Library was relocated in a new building behind the Peace Palace.
